Autobiographical

My full-length book, Where We Think It Should Go, can be yours via Octopus Books, Small Press Distribution, or Amazon. We better celebrate these hard copies while we can. When I'm not writing poetry, I teach amazing young people who are blind. I believe in a healthier future.

This reading really scares me. I won't even show you the poster, which is even scarier. But you can see it for yourself here. However, I am glad I finally found it. Thanks Clay.

Readings, Complaints

There are tons of readings coming up...uhhh. Are you on Facebook? Sometimes I wish I wasn't. That's the most dramatic thing I can say right now. The most! Summer school is kind of a drag. Teachers make bad students (or whatever). I'm a teenager in my afternoon house. Anyhow:

Goodbye to Clay Banes's reading series at Pegasus!

-I didn't make it to the last few, but I made it to quite a few.
-Standing behind the reader on the balcony, staring at the wheelchair lift when the room was crowded.
-Or in the proper places, staring at the Earth stickers on the chairs.
-Awe at the excellent excellent roster of readers.
-Looking at all the internet books in a real home on the shelf there.
-I don't really like HiTek Burrito.

Andrew Kenower's recording of me reading at Back Room Live in January is up at A Voice Box, and I really have to recommend it. I had lost my voice completely for over 24 hours before the reading and was barely getting it back at the time. I wish my voice always sounded like that and I always spoke so slowly. I also like the ambient noise at the end. Good work Andrew. Other new readings up too.

As I was recently recorded by travelling poets Brandon and Rob, you'll be able to hear me reading someday on the radio in Missoula, Montana. So you could drive through Montana back and forth until you do. That sounds like a great life plan, bouncing back whenever you reach the borders of the state. Thanks guys. Thanks Lauren. I think your radio show is also a pretty good life plan.

Lots of poetry live again: Tonight there's a Back Room Live reading--Lyn Hejinian, Brenda Hillman, Geoffrey G. O'Brien and Graham Foust. Also the New Old New Yipes or whatever that's called now in Oakland has Lyn Hejinian & K. Silem Mohhamed tomorrow night at 6:30 at 21 Grand. And tonight is a comedy show fundraiser for 826 Valencia, Evening of a Thousand Scowls at Everett Middle School. See you somewhere.

Our reading in Nebraska is sort of embarrassingly well-documented on some blogs that I won't mention. I will mention that the Sheldon Memorial Art Gallery is a beautiful building with a really stellar 20th century collection, and our hosts were really wonderful. Thank you! Being cold is kind of interesting. The midwest deserves a lot of love. I saw some fabulous hills in northern Missouri, western Iowa, and eastern Nebraska.

I also spent some time eating ribs in Kansas City, having sing-alongs in Johnson County, and scanning old photos at my parents house. Too bad my computer won't read the CD I burned them on. Luckily I had a couple in my email.

The biggest news of the weekend concerns Will Oldham and a forthcoming issue of your favorite online poetry journal.

Me Reading

I'm reading next Saturday, January 12th at Pegasus Books in Berkeley at 7:30 PM. Poet-sanctioned fiction. Fiction-sanctioned poetry. ?

This should be a really excellent reading because it is for Pirate Pig Press. There will probably be free things given to you to drink. There will be some wildness. The other readers are some graduates of St. Mary's and other people as well. Really the first people to welcome me to northern California at a party in San Leandro four years ago and ever since.

Claire Becker, Sarah McKinnon, Matthew Thomas Russell, Dan Sanders, Ammon Torrence and Justin Kibbe. Pegasus. January 12th. 7:30 PM.

I will have copies of my chapbook to sell and the bookstore will too!

Happy 2008. Happy 2007. My new year's resolution last year was to be more social. This year I'm thinking about getting a bike and moving to San Francisco.

Joe Wenderoth is a great reader and singer. At Berkeley City College, it sounds like the reader or singer is inhaling deeply whenever there's supposed to be silence. It almost drove me insane. If you cackled a lot at the first part then left during Joe Wenderoth, I tried to stare you down. Now I need to look that up. Stared you down!
